The Praying Mantis
Posted by emmfle on 7th February 2008
A Praying Mantis is carnivorous. There are over 2,000 different types of them. It gets its name from the way it holds its two front legs as if it was praying. The longest Praying Mantis can be as long as 15cm, the smallest it can get is as short as 1cm. They are found in warm places or continents. It has a very good sense of hearing and it mostly flies during night time. A Praying Mantis eats beetles, spiders, grasshoppers, crickets and much more. They also eat small vertebrates like tree frogs, lizards and mice, sometimes they even eat other Praying Mantises. Some people think Praying Mantises are such a pest, but they actually keep other insects away from gardens.
